RECAP: The Top Four Fight for the Title of The Voice

\

The pressure was on for finalists on The Voice, but not before judges Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton sang the Queen/David Bowie song “Under Pressure.”  The top four finalists, Vicci Martinez, Javier Colon, Dia Frampton and Beverly McClellan, performed a duet with his or her respective coach and an original song.  There was also a sexy performance from Ne-Yo and Pitbull.  Another hot moment of the show was when Brad Paisley and Blake teamed up for "Don't Drink the Water."

Javier from Adam’s team sang an original R&B song called “Stitch by Stitch” and was later joined by Adam for Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.”  Dia’s song was called “Inventing Shadows,” and she performed a duet with Blake of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.”  Vicci took the stage for a rock track “Afraid of Sleep” and got some help from a red garbed, mohawked Cee Lo on Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield.”  Beverly finished up the night with her own upbeat rock song “Love Sick” and a duet with Christina on her tune “Beautiful.”

The Verdict:

Javier: The reason Javier made it to the finals was for his smooth, pure sound, which he brought to his own song.  Having the guitar didn’t hurt either.  Although Javier could have done more with the song vocally with his wide range, it was still a sweet performance.  Adam and Javier had the most fitting duet for their vocals of the night with the Michael Jackson cover.  Although fans aren’t supposed to vote based on the duet and only the original song, Adam definitely upped Javier’s chances.

Dia: A suave Dia and Blake worked well together on stage wearing suits and sunglasses for their duet, neither star outshining the other.  Dia’s confidence seems to be up a notch.  But in Dia’s own song, the awkward “shadows” in the backdrop may have overshadowed her.  The song is good, but is it a hit?   Dia seems to be the front-runner prior to the finale, so hopefully her fans will vote for her.

Vicci: Vicci’s performance was smoking—literally—with a fog-filled stage.  She had the best original song of the contestants by far.  Maybe it was Cee Lo’s assistance as not only a performer but a producer or maybe just because the song was the most radio friendly song, suiting her style.  Cee Lo and Vicci’s duet was also the most entertaining visually and vocally of the night.  Vicci has embraced her coach, showed her outstanding stage presence and her unique voice.  She's got the whole package.

Beverly: It was an awesome choice for Beverly and Christina to sing one of Christina’s own songs, and especially “Beautiful.”  While they did give a beautiful version of the song, it may not be enough for Beverly to take the competition.  Her own song was a rockin' track reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge and even Heart, but Bev just doesn’t measure up to the other contestants.

Based on the performances Tuesday night, we expect Vicci to be crowned as the first winner of "The Voice."  But as an overall artist, Dia may be ahead as America’s favorite.  We’ll find out tonight on the results show.
