Lady Gaga Stays at #1, but Experiences Historic Sales Plunge

Last week, Lady Gaga wrote her way into the record books thanks to the massive first-week sales of her album Born This Way.  This week, she rewrites the record books for experiencing an historic sales drop-off.

Billboard notes that while Born This Way retains its #1 spot on the chart, sales in the second week plunged 84%, the largest sales drop-off for any album that sold over a million in its first week.  The previous record for biggest sales drop after a million-plus week was held by 'N Sync's 2001 album Celebrity.  That album's sales plunged 76% after selling 1.8 million copies in its first week.

Adele's 21, the first album so far this year to sell two million copies, is at #2 this week, but given the rate of Gaga's declining sales it could return to #1 next week.
