Christina Aguilera Flubs National Anthem, Lea Michele Sings "America the Beautiful"
Christina Aguilera and Glee actress Lea Michele delivered a pair of powerful performances prior to kickoff at the big game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Wearing a black outfit with bright red lipstick and with her blonde hair down, Christina belted out "The Star-Spangled Banner," though not without a flub. At the point in the national anthem when she was supposed to sing the words "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?," she repeated a line she'd performed just moments earlier and tossed in an incorrect word for good measure. She accidentally sang "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming" and mistakenly substituted the word "watched" for "hailed."
Christina stretched the final notes in typical fashion but managed to keep her rendition of the national anthem to less than two minutes. Hours later, she released the following statement: "I got so lost in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of it's [sic] anthem still came through."
Christina was preceded by Lea Michele's performance of "America the Beautiful." Michele, who was backed by a choir, wore a white coat with tan pants.
Maroon 5 and country star Keith Urban performed during Fox's extended pregame show.
