Artist to Watch: Butch Walker
There are two types of people in this world: people who love Butch Walker and those who merely havent heard of him. While many would hardly call Butch Walker an up-and-coming artist, as hes been around for years and has a huge following, Walker is currently making an entry onto the pop scene. Walker will be touring with Train starting this month before hitting up Europe as an opening act for Pink.
Walker made a name for himself with the freaks of the week Marvelous 3a band out of Atlanta that had mild success before their 2001 split. When Walker went solo shortly thereafter, he went on to release several albums including Left of Self-Centered in 2002, Letters in 2004 and The Rise and Fall of Butch Walker and the Let's-Go-Out-Tonites in 2006. A real trooper, he even played over 200 shows in 2005 alone. Some of his songs were made popular by other artists, including Avril Lavigne, American Hi-Fi, Pete Yorn, Fall Out Boy, All-American Rejects, Dashboard Confessional and All-Time Low.
In the last two years, Walker has also been stepping it up with releases from his band 1969 and a solo album Sycamore Meadows. Hes also had success as a writer and producer, as he played part in production of Saosins record from Capitol Records, a track Open Happiness that he wrote for Coca-Cola featuring Cee-Lo, Janelle Monae and Brendon Urie, and cowriting and production assistance with Weezer on their 2009 album. His track I Liked You When You Had No Heart from Butch Walker and the Black Widows was released at the end of February of this year.
If you havent made the transition to the world of Butch Walker, definitely check him out. Hes a great act with endurance and superstar potential. The tours with Train and Pink might just help him make that leap.
